I couldn't live without... Ruth Ann Grant , reporter
December 2006
“I’m getting sharp today,” more than one resident announces to Cristy Alagao, RN_BC, director of health services at Villa Gardens, Pasadena, CA. The residents say it whole using an enjoyable, interactive touchscreen program that challenges their brain power.
Using Dakim’s [m]Power cognitive fitness system is so easy that residents don’t even consider it a computer, according to Alagao.
Villa Gardens, a community that includes independent living, assisted living and 54 skilled nursing beds, recently purchased 10 [m]Power units. Each included a 17-inch portable touchscreen with no mouse or keyboard, so no computer skills are required to use it.
They’re sharpening their cognitive abilities while they enjoy puzzles, games and other activities, Alagao says. “I think it’s a great way to empower the residents and improve their quality of life.”
Dakim’s [m]Power is an interactive cognitive fitness system for residents with normal brain function, and those at risk for or suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
