Located in Santa Monica, California, Dakim BrainFitness is the creator and developer of the world's most advanced brain training system. Dan's Dad later in his struggle with AD. At this point, Dan, frustrated by the lack of cognitive stimulation tools, decided to do something about it himself, so he began creating mental stimulation devices.
Although crude, the first mental stimulation devices Dan created provided engagement and stimulation and pointed to a bigger opportunity.
Dan's devices grew more complex, and more stimulating, the limitations of analog devices became apparent, and the value of a computer appliance became obvious.
Knowing that the design, engineering and programming required to create an effective technology-based brain fitness product would require lots of innovation and unique expertise, Dan reached out to the smartest tech guy he knew, Jerry Robinson, who joined Dakim as a founding partner in 2002.
Dakim, like many start-ups, had a humble beginning. Its first corporate headquarters was in a garage.
The first prototype of a technology based cognitive stimulation device created by Dakim used an Apple eMac fitted with a touch screen interface, configured by Jerry Robinson.
Leisure Activities and the Risk of Dementia in the Elderly is published in the New England Journal of Medicine, confirming that Dakim's approach to making rigorous cognitive exercise fun is the answer.
Dakim secures $3.5 million in equity funding from angel investors, enabling the company to begin full operations.
